Glycolic Acids belong to the family of Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA), a group of natural substances derived from fruits. Glycolic Acid itself is derived from sugar cane. As we age, so the rate of the cellular turnover on our skin slows down. This causes a build-up of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin, giving it a dull and dry appearance. It also makes it difficult for moisturiers to penetrate this dead layer of skin. Glycolic Acid is a clinically proven, anti-ageing ingredient that is an exfoliant. It dissolves the “glue” that holds the old dead cells together, allowing them to peel off – this is called desquamation. It quickens the rate of cell turnover, boosts collagen and elastin production and visibly improves skin radiance, texture and tone. As a result, the skin looks smoother and brighter with fewer wrinkles, giving it a youthfulness. It is also effective at treating superficial hyperpigmentation.
